Beyond Girls State
After participating in Girls State you will be part of a network of women committed to improving and participating in the democratic process. Two special young women will be selected as senators to represent Georgia at Girls Nation.
Girls Nation
Two outstanding citizens of the American Legion Georgia Girls State session will be selected by delegates and staff to attend Girls Nation. The Girls Nation session will be held at the National 4-H Center, Chevy Chase, MD, July 20 - July 27, 2024. All expenses of the two young ladies will be paid.
Each June, the American Legion Auxiliary sponsors Girls Nation in Washington, D.C. At the close of the Girls State session, two delegates are then selected to represent their state as "senators" at Girls Nation.
At Girls Nation, senators learn how government and democracy work on a national level. The senators also tour the Washington D.C. area, which includes special trips to The White House and Capitol Hill. Appointed and elected officials are often guest speakers at Girls Nation. Appointments with U.S. representatives and senators are also a part of the experience.

Girls State has provided a valuable learning ground for hundreds of thousands of accomplished women. It instilled in these women a deeper understanding of government operations. They left Girls State less intimidated by government, able to see it for what it is - ordinary people working for the betterment of society. Some past Girls State citizens include:
